At
your first visit we feel it is important to get to know you
and establish a good relationship by discussing your dental
needs and expectations. To help us focus on specific areas
where you may feel you want help we can use a "smile
questionnaire".
During
this appointment a thorough examination is carried out and
x-rays are taken as necessary to ensure a full and contemporaneous
dental history is obtained and recorded. After that you
may sit back and relax, unless of course emergency treatment
is required!
Many
new patients especially those who have regularly attended
a dentist in the past may only require a check up and routine
scale & polish.
If
your dentist does identify any dental problems during the
examination they will let you know and discuss treatment
options. In certain circumstances, a further appointment
can be arranged to enable the dentist to fully explain their
findings and recommendations. By explaining the options
fully, we enable you to make an informed decision. Then
with your agreement, we will arrange the necessary further
appointments and on request provide you with a written treatment
plan and an estimate of costs.
Once
a course of treatment is completed we will agree together
how often your routine treatments and hygienist visits should
be. For most people this is every six months. We can then
either arrange your next check up appointment at that time
or send a recall by post or text message.
Our
main aim is to help you maintain good oral health by advising
you how to keep your teeth clean and gums healthy, instigating
a programme of regular monitoring and providing any remedial
treatment when necessary.
We are
also aware that the appearance of our teeth is very important
and can influence how we feel about ourselves and how we
perceive others see us. You may be interested in cosmetic
treatments to improve the colour, shape or positioning of
your teeth, if so your dentist will be happy to advise.
