Tooth Whitening
Why Do Teeth Darken?
As we age, our teeth naturally darken due to wear and thinning enamel. However, stains from coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking can all accelerate discolouration. Even with excellent oral hygiene, lifestyle and diet play a big part in how white your teeth appear.
What's Involved in Teeth Whitening?
We always begin with a consultation to ensure whitening is suitable for you and to check for any restorations like fillings or crowns, which won’t respond to the whitening gel. If you have visible fillings, your dentist may advise replacing them after treatment to match your new, whiter shade.
Once you’re ready to proceed:
- A 3D scan of your teeth is taken to create your custom-fit whitening trays.
- You’ll receive a set of trays and whitening gel with instructions on how to apply it at home.
- Treatment is typically done over 2–3 weeks, depending on your desired shade.

How long does teeth whitening last?
The effects can last from several months to a few years, depending on your lifestyle. You can reuse your trays for future top-ups.
Will all my teeth whiten evenly?
Natural teeth will whiten at different rates. Fillings, crowns, or veneers won't change shade and may need replacing for a uniform look.
Are there any side effects?
The most common side effect is tooth sensitivity. This usually subsides after treatment. Using a sensitive toothpaste before and during whitening can help.
Can I whiten my teeth if I have sensitive teeth?
Yes, but we recommend a gentler approach and may adjust the duration of treatment or suggest desensitising products alongside whitening.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Absolutely – when done under the supervision of a dental professional, tooth whitening is safe and effective.
